RuggedCom Introduces New Compact Gigabit Ethernet Switch for High Bandwidth Applications

RuggedCom Inc. (“RuggedCom”) (TSX:RCM), a leading provider of rugged communications networking solutions designed
for mission-critical applications in harsh environments, has announced the introduction of the new compact RuggedSwitch™ RS940G 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet switch to address the needs for high bandwidth applications found in substation automation
for electric utilities, video over IP in intelligent transportation systems, and advanced control and automation for industrial processes.
The new RuggedSwitch™ RS940G product features:
- 6 Triple Speed 10/100/1000BaseTX Ports + 2 Optional Gigabit Fiber or Copper Ports
- Hazardous Location Certification (Class1 Div 2)
- Advanced Managed Ethernet Switch Functions
- Integrated Cyber Security Features
“As more network intensive applications drive deeper into harsher environments, the RS940G fills the immediate need for high bandwidth applications", explains Roger Moore, VP of Engineering for RuggedCom. “The RS940G is the newest addition to the RuggedSwitch™ RS900 family of products, a highly versatile and flexible platform that includes configurations for wireless, Ethernet over VDSL, serial interfaces and many fiber connection options”.
As with all RuggedCom products, the RuggedSwitch™ RS940G is RuggedRated™ for harsh environments. RuggedRated™ products meet or exceed a wide range of industry standards; provide a high level of immunity to electromagnetic interference and heavy electrical surges; feature a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C (no fans); can be powered from
a variety of sources (12VDC, 24VDC, 48VDC, 88-300VDC/35-264VAC); and have high MTBFs and reliability characteristics. In addition, all RuggedSwitch™ RS900 family of products are Class 1 Div 2 certified for hazardous locations. All of these features allow the RuggedSwitch™ products to be placed in almost any location for great installation flexibility.
